NAMAS History
NAMAS was founded by Shannon DeConda in 2007 as a subsidiary of DoctorsManagement. While working as a coding and auditing consultant for DoctorsManagement, Shannon DeConda, President and Founder saw the struggles of auditors regarding how to address the many challenges they face related to proper auditing and compliance. Recognizing that auditors could benefit from more reliable tools and training, Mrs. DeConda created an auditing training and certification program.
Mrs. DeConda’s passion for auditing has fueled her relentless pursuit to ensure auditors have access to reliable authoritative and timely educational programs as well as the opportunity to gain recognition for their higher education. The Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA®) credential was developed and resulted in a program that provides an auditing credential along with a comprehensive curriculum and certification exam.
In 2010, NAMAS and the AAPC joined forces and the AAPC took ownership of the CPMA® credential and exam, while NAMAS continues to train auditors as the only AAPC-approved trainer for the CPMA® exam.
Today, the CPMA® credential continues to gain national recognition, and the need for certified auditors in the healthcare community continues to rise. NAMAS is expanding its offerings with live CPMA® training events across the country as well as numerous online trainings that provide CPMA® CEUs.
