As an auditor, we must expand our skill sets to include a myriad of specialties in which we have expertise. Over the years, I have learned my strengths and certainly learned my weak areas to stay away from.
When I trained as a respiratory therapist, learning the intricacies of the cardiac system kicked my rear. Today they remain my kryptonite, and I am ok with that because I know I have other areas that I am accomplished in and areas I am honored to have the opportunity to teach others about at conference events. This week, I am out of the office in Charleston, SC at AAPC Regional Conference speaking on Ophthalmology and teaching coders how to use benchmarking. Then, I will travel to ASCENT in Orlando, FL, and review compliance-based topics on incident-to and mitigating risk. Self-awareness is key to career growth and development. Know your strengths and work hard to develop them, but also know your weaknesses- embrace them and surround yourself with teammates who have those skills.
